Good evening family!! I feel so much better and I decided to post this now because I posted one in the morning, soooooo wassup? Somehow I feel this post should’ve come before the last one, nevertheless, I’d post it still. This evening’s post is going to be short and we are going to be talking about the necessity of study… straight to scriptures:
2 Tim 3:16
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:KJV
Paul was talking to his spiritual son Timothy here in this scripture as recorded. Timothy was a much younger Bishop and Paul was giving instructions on being an apostle to him. We know from this scripture that all scripture is given by God’s inspiration and is useful for Doctrine- teaching, for reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness. He went on further to give the reason for documentations, scriptures.
2 Tim 3:17
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.KJV
The scriptures were giving to aide the man of God become perfect unto all good works. To aide believers work towards the perfection of the life we have been called into. Therefore:
2 Tim 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.KJV
We have NEED to study the scriptures to know who we are and how our conducts should be, to learn to show ourselves worthy of the gospel we have received. Remember the last post? It’s all connected really. You can’t do the word, if you don’t know the word. You can’t know the word if you don’t study.
The last statement in that verse shows the paramount reason for studying that Paul told Timothy; to rightly divide the word of truth. To rightly teach the word of truth. We might be tempted to say that as long as we aren’t teachers, we don’t need to study much, after all Paul was writing to Timothy, a bishop, whose assignment was to teach. But look at this, what happens when we meet a new convert who has lots of questions and your pastor isn’t available? Or an unbeliever? What would you preach to the person when you’ve not even studied to know more about the gospel you’ve received and have been saved through? Whether you like it or not, admit it or not, we’ve all been called into this ministry of reconciliation and we all have been given the mandate to preach the gospel.
What happens when you are faced with a situation that you need to speak God’s word over it, and you’ve not been studying to know God’s word concerning it? Sometimes we want to make decisions and we want to know what God’s will concerning the decision is, and so we begin to fast and pray for 21 days and still not get answers. Most times it’s because the will of God concerning that is clearly stated in the scriptures and it’s our Job to study to know it. When we study, we come to the understanding of our reality and then we act it out.
Being a believer, you don’t just sit and wait for your pastor to teach every other Sunday. It’s also necessary for you to take out time to study to know. Knowledge is power; people perish due to ignorance.
Father, we pray that you continue to give us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You even as we study that we might know the hope to which You’ve called us to. Amen.
Have a lovely day ahead and don’t forget to cultivate the habit of studying as you go on in the week. You can read the previous post here. Don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share your thoughts in the comment boxes below. I love you!!!
