Good afternoon family. Today’s pearl is going to be talking about God’s GLORY!!!!!!!. Most times when we hear the word “Glory”, most people’s imaginations just run wild and we picture bright lights and stars*smiles. Then when we hear the ‘Glory of God’, woahhhh!! We picture blinding lights with bright fireworks and stuff and we can almost imagine it taking forms and shapes (well I used to.. #unashamed) *smiles. While this isn’t wrong per se, that is not the Glory of God we are going to be talking about today.
First, when we are asked to define the word glory, (if we don’t let the pictures of bright lights and fireworks play in our heads), what comes to mind? The glory of a person is the totality of everything that consists that person; it is the greatest expression or manifestation, in its complete form, of everything that gives that person relevance. Right now, words fail me but I believe we get the idea.
For example, ever heard of the phrase “he stepped out in all his glory”? Sounds familiar right? It means, he stepped out, fully displaying everything that consists him, he stepped out in all his beauty, and elegance, splendor… you name it.
Another quick one, we know that the major reason peacocks are loved and adored is because of the beautiful designs they have on their tails. We know it, the peacocks know it. So when a peacock wants to, you know, ‘show off’, what does it do? It spreads out its beautiful tail and just struts around in our faces, displaying it for all to see and deriving pleasure and pride in it. The peacock at that point, is strutting around, in all its glory.
Remember we are talking about the Glory of God here? So let’s take a quick look at scriptures
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;KJV.
We see Paul here, describing Jesus Christ, the Son here, as the brightness of God’s Glory. Now we can’t just read that at face value and say, Jesus shines with blinding light, he could’ve; but when he was on earth after resurrection, and he appeared to the disciples, they were not blinded by his appearance. He was still the brightness of God’s glory here you know, so we can safely say that that verse is beyond just Jesus’ physical appearance as of blinding light.
When we talk about brightness, we talk about the full expression of something. For instance when we say, ‘the brightness of light’ it simply means, the full expression of light. How would you know there’s light if you don’t see the brightness? Or the ‘brightness of the sun’ how would we acknowledge the sun, if it isn’t shinning bright?
So when the bible says, “The brightness of His glory”, we can either see it as, brightness of God’s light, you know, the blinding one, or we can see it as the full expression of the Glory of God. The greatest expression of who God is.
We can correlate this to a scripture most of us know,
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.KJV
So if we trace it from where we started, we see that Jesus Christ is the fullness, the greatest expression of God’s glory in body form. In Him dwells everything that makes God, God. And so He (Jesus) is who we are been transformed into. Remember when we talked about this in the blog post Renewing of your mind ? you can check it out if you haven’t already.
2 Cor 3:18
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.KJV
So we as believers, constantly beholding the person of Jesus, who is God’s glory, are been transformed to Him, note* not to be like Him, but to be Him, from one degree of God’s glory, to another. We are glorious beings, peeps!!!! #I just took a break to dance around. lol
Isn’t it amazing to know that it’s all connected together and all part of God’s big plan for humanity to be reconciled back to him?
Father, help us to stay steadfast in the faith, growing daily unto perfection as you have designed for us. Amen.
